The Nordiques were on the road wrapping up their road trip for a 2 game set against the Northeast Generals.
Game 1 of the Series
The Nordiques have gotten the first goal in more than half of their games this season and have had no trouble striking first recently, but the generals would find the twine 9:37 in to get things going. They would add another with just 3 minutes left in the frame. 2-0 Gens after the first period.
The second period started better than the 1st; as Cannon Green would strike from Isaiah Fox and Andy Noel to cut the lead in half. The Nords would then head to the power play, but wouldn’t be able to convert and the generals would strike back making it 3-1 after the second period.
Cannon Green was able to duplicate what he did in the 2nd to start the 3rd; scoring just 6 minutes into the frame to cut it to a 1 goal difference. The Nords would kill off two penalties and Isaiah Fox would be able to tie it up with 5 minutes remaining in the game. This one would need extras.
The Nords have been very impressive in OT this season, but they would fall short in this one. The Nords wouldn’t be able to pull off the comeback and Rickey Boysen, who won it in OT against The Nords on January 10th, would do it again for The Generals in a 4-3 win.
Game 2 of the Series
The Nords got a point in OT but were hungry for 2, as they still needed 1 more win to clinch 2nd place in the East.
A good start to the game for The Nords as they put on the pressure, but were only able to strike once as Aiden Connolly found the back of the net from Fasig and Carrick to make it 1-0.
Rickey Boysen who won it in OT for The Generals last night, would open the 2nd with a tying goal. It took the entire second for The Nords to respond, but Jackson Vercellono would bang home Aiden Connollys rebound to make it 2-1 Nords after second period.
The first 10 minutes of the 3rd period had good goaltending from Ty Outen and Hugo Hass; no goals until the 12:55 marker where The Nords got a power play and Tristan Fasig scored to widen the lead. The Generals would get it back 3 minutes later and then pull their goalie trying to get to OT again. The Generals then turned it over on a breakout pass; Cannon Green took it away, dropped it to Isaiah Fox and The Nords would get 2 points and secure 2nd place in the East division by a score of 4-2.
The Nords head home for their regular-season finale on May 7th and 8th against the Danbury Hat Tricks in what are always entertaining affairs.
